By-Laws
Purpose
To participate in parades and other ceremonies that are in keeping with the Aims and Purposes of the American Legion. To promote motorcycle safety programs and to provide a social atmosphere for American Legion members who share the same interest. To use our Association to promote and support programs of the American Legion.
By Laws
Membership: There are two requirements for membership.
A current member of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of the American Legion.
You must own a motorcycle of at least 350cc in size or be the spouse of an owner who is an Association Member.
Officers of the Association Chapter are as follows:
A. Director
B. Assistant Director
C. Secretary
D. Treasurer
E. Run Coordinator
F. Historian
G. Membership
Elections: Election of the Chapter Officers will be held annually at such time as determined by the general membership of the Chapter.
Duties of the Association Chapter Officers
H. Director: Will serve as Chief Administrative Officer of the Association and will preside over all meetings. He shall have general supervision over the affairs of the Association. He shall perform such other duties as directed by the general membership.
I. Assistant Director: Will assume the duties of the Director in his absence. Will assist the Director in the performance of his duties when called on to do so by the Director.
J. Secretary: To keep a full and correct record of all proceedings at the meetings.
K. Membership: Keep membership records as may be required by the general membership. To give detail reports at each regular meeting.
L. Treasure: To have charge of all finances of the Association. To have charge of distribution funds as directed by the general membership. To give detailed financial reports at each regular meeting.
M. Historian: To keep all historical records of the Chapter.
Meetings: Meetings will be held at a date, time and place as voted on by a majority of members at any regular meeting. Seven members will constitute a quorum.
Finances: Finances of each Association Chapter will be from Association membership dues or such other sources as approved by the membership.
Expulsion: Any member may be expelled or suspended from the Association by a majority vote of the general membership at a regular Chapter meeting. The patch much by returned to the Association and the membership fee returned to expelled member.
Each State Chapter may determine eligibility for Charter Membership in its own chapter.
Each Chapter will be known by the state in which its majority of members reside. As the need may arise state chapters may be broken down into regions.
Each State Chapter may elect to adopt a set of standing rules to govern its membership. These standing rules shall be no less stringent than those contained in these By-Laws nor can they be in any conflict with the National Constitution and By-Laws of the American Legion.
Disbursement of funds will be only those authorized at any regular meeting of the Chapter. Each Chapter will be a non-profit organization and may only disburse funds in a manner that is in keeping with all local, state and national law as regarding non-profit organization.
All meetings will be conducted under “Robert’s Rules of Order”
New members much produce their driver’s license with their application to be seen by two officers showing a motorcycle endorsement.
All American Legion riders will comply with all North Carolina DMV rules and regulations at all times.
Elections of officers will be held the in September starting in 2005.
16. Patches: The American Legion Riders Patch shall be on the back of the vest
“ Post 144 N. C.” shall be embroidered at the bottom of
the back patch using 5/8 letters and numbers. At the members
desecration, “Belmont NC” may be added to the back with the
American Legion Riders Patch.
17. If the American Flag is to be worn, it must be placed on the left front over the
Heart and no other patches or pins be worn over the flag.
A majority vote by the American Legion Riders members must be reached for the dismissal of a member.
The American Legion Riders members and the American Legion Executive Committee of the sponsoring Post must approve any changes or additions to the by-laws.
The American Legion Riders Secretary must hold all membership applications and records of members. The Secretary must hold all the minutes from all meetings.
All runs and functions held by the American Legion Riders of North Carolina must get approval from the Executive Committee of the American Legion sponsoring Post.
There will be a safety meeting held before each ride. This meeting will be held by the Run Coordinator.
There will be an American Legion Rider financial report made at each meeting.
Annual dues will be collected with the new members application.
Failure to pay annual dues, the member will be dropped from the roster at the end of that year.
All members must own a motorcycle of 350cc or greater. There will be no trail bikes allowed.
